New Information - GED Application, Age Waiver and Parental Consent Forms – New Test Series Begins in 2014

Before taking your GED® test, you must first complete and submit your online GED® application with payment to the State GED® Office. You can pay for your test online with a credit card, OR, you may download the confirmation page and mail it, along with your payment* to the State GED® Office. Make money orders/business checks payable to the Ohio Testing Services. Send your confirmation page and payment to: State GED® Office, 25 S. Front St., Columbus, OH 43215. Your payment is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

*Payment options: Money order or business check (payable to Ohio Testing Services), VISA, MasterCard or debit card. No gift cards, pre-paid cards or personal checks are accepted.

Application Expiration

  • Your application is valid for only 120 days from the approval date. If you miss the 120-day deadline, you must submit a new application with a new payment. If you are under the age of 19, your application also must include a new Age Waiver GED Age Waiver Form (PDF) and/or a new notarized Parental Consent Form. GED Parental Consent Form (PDF)
  • Once your application has been entered, your payment is non-refundable and non-transferrable.

For returning applicants: If you already have a SAFE account, please log in to re-apply and pay. You must contact the testing center to be scheduled for your test(s).

Coming in 2014! The current 2002 series is scheduled to end on Dec. 31, 2013. If you have not passed one or more parts of the 2002 series, beginning Jan. 1, 2014, you will need to take the entire test and pass to receive your GED®. Prior scores will not be counted. The cost of the GED® test in 2014 is $120.

Current Test Series! The GED application test fee for all first-time test takers for the Paper-based Test (PBT) is $40. Re-testers will be charged $10 per subject test being retaken, up to a maximum of $40. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable. The GED® office does not notify applicants when GED® applications are approved. Please contact your test center 7-10 business days after you submit your application OR go online through your SAFE account to determine if you are eligible to schedule your test. Re-testers must contact a test center in order to schedule the test.

The last day to place an application for the Paper-based Test (PBT) is Aug. 9, 2013. All fees and documentation (accommodations, parental consent form and/or age waiver if required) must be in our office by Aug. 9, 2013. All paperwork received after this date will be returned to the applicant.  
The last day in the State of Ohio for Paper-based Testing is Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 (based on each test center's schedule). NO TEST CENTER is permitted to test beyond that date!!
