Internships, job shadowing, volunteering and mentoring are valuable ways for your child to learn, test out a career and have some fun along the way. These experiences often have a big influence on a student’s future career.
Internships
Internships give your child real-world career experience. They may be paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time. To help your child find an internship, talk to guidance counselors, teachers, family friends and relatives. Encourage your high-school-age child to ask local businesses about internship opportunities. Don’t worry if your child ends up filing and doing entry-level tasks. They will learn a lot just by being in a business environment.
Job Shadowing
Your child may already have their heart set on a future job without knowing the day-to-day details of the job will entail. Or maybe your child has no idea what they plan to do when they graduate. Volunteering
