General Overview

The Cleveland Scholarship program provides educational choices for children in kindergarten through twelfth grade who reside in the Cleveland Municipal School District. The program gives students  the opportunity to attend private school. Even if your child already attends a private school, you may be eligible to apply for the program.

The maximum amount of the scholarship for K-8 is currently $6166 and high school is $8408. Each school has different tuition amounts. Depending on the amount of the school's tuition, the scholarship will pay up to the designated amount. If the tuition is more than the scholarship amounts, the parent may be responsible for the difference.

Income Verification

The Ohio Department of Education uses an online Scholarship Income Verification System. The system is available for families to enter and submit their income information electronically to the Scholarship office for verification. Parents are able to enter household member information, income information and upload supporting income documents directly into the online system. More  detailed instructions can be found under Cleveland Scholarship Resources.

Eligibility

Students who currently reside in the Cleveland Municipal School District, and will be in grades K-12 for the next school year are eligible for this program.

Cleveland Scholarship families who qualify for low-income status, (at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines) and have a student in grades K-8, do not have to pay tuition that is not covered by the scholarship. Families with students in grades 9-12 are responsible for the tuition that is not covered by the scholarship. The scholarship can only be used to pay tuition. Parents and/or guardians may have to pay registration fees, material fees and other similar types of fees.

Transportation

Transportation may be available for Cleveland Scholarship students through the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD). CMSD is solely responsible for arrangements and establishing eligibility requirements for transportation. For assistance, contact the CMSD Transportation Department at (216) 838-4287.
